ABOUT Rita
Rita Hausken, Founder of Shestainability, is an Award-winning Executive Coach, Advisor and Speaker who has coached hundreds of women on how to take their seat at the table and confidently share their ideas and visions. She has a proven track record of changing cultures in male-dominated industries by supporting women to step into greater leadership and influence. She cares so much about this work because she has seen how women bring unique solutions to important issues of our time.
For 20 years, Rita worked as a Sales Director in the press, covering the oil and gas industry. She led teams of 20+ people and navigated them through some of the worst economic downturns. Rita experienced first-hand the challenges women face in a male dominated industry, which is why, in 2017, she resigned to start her own coaching company. Now, Rita is on a mission to help women ensure that busyness, stress and pressure don’t hijack their lives, and instead, to let their innermost values and vision guide them and be at the forefront of everything they do.
Rita holds a number of professional certifications, including a PCC from ICF, and CPC, MP ELI from IPEC. She is the Chair for Lean in Equity & Sustainability, Co-founder of Women Building a Sustainable Future Ltd. She was awarded Top Executive Coach by CEO Today in November 2022 and Transition Economists TE100 top 10 Entrepreneurs in the Energy Transition in December 2021.

Most women find their way here because someone they trust said my name, or because they have been reading me from a distance for a while, and the moment has come.
Either way, you are welcome.
You are probably not here for more advice.
You are here because the way you have been operating can no longer hold the level of work, truth, responsibility, or life you are stepping into.
You may be inside a respected institution and know, in your body, that staying sensible has started to cost too much.
You may be known for your voice, your intelligence, your ability to challenge and move things forward, while sensing that the next chapter needs more than reaction. It needs direction.
You may be delivering at a high level and quietly wondering why your capacity feels so low, when everyone around you still sees you as capable.
You may be stepping into a larger role with a mission that matters, knowing you cannot build the next chapter on the same terms that exhausted you before.
You may be the one seeing the whole picture in a complex organisation, while the people around you only see fragments.
This is often where my clients arrive.
They are not looking for motivation.
They are not looking for someone to tell them they are strong.
The role is too small.
The structure is too tight.
The politics are too consuming.
The body is speaking.
The next move is asking for a different level of honesty.
That is where our work begins.
What I do
For the last nine years, I have worked with senior women leaders when the problem in front of them is no longer the real problem.
It may look like a decision about whether to stay, leave, or reshape the role from the inside.
It may look like a leadership transition, a funding question, a team pattern, a board conversation, a founder tension, a public voice that is ready to become clearer, or a piece of work that keeps returning in a form that feels off.
We work with the problem as it appears.
Then we look at what it is revealing.
Often, the issue is pointing to a decision, a truth, an ask, a structure, or a next move that has not yet been fully named.
My work is to sit beside you there.
To read what is happening underneath the conversation.
To help you separate the real issue from the noise around it.
To name what has become too familiar to see clearly.
And to stay with you while the next true move becomes clear.
Why I can do this work
For two decades, I worked on the commercial side of international media, serving the upstream oil and gas industry.
As Sales Director, I led teams, built relationships across the global energy sector, travelled extensively, and navigated the commercial realities of a volatile industry.
That work took me across countries, cultures, companies, and conversations where I had to understand quickly what mattered to the people in front of me, what was being said, what was not being said, and what the room was organised around.
Through relationships, commercial responsibility, and direct exposure to the people shaping the industry, I learned to listen beyond the formal conversation.
At the same time, my private life held a different level of intensity.
My son Benjamin lived with a rare and life-threatening condition. Again and again, I found myself in rooms with doctors, specialists, systems, and decisions where I had to listen deeply, question what was being accepted, and fight for what had not yet been considered.
That shaped me.
It taught me to listen beneath the official story.
It taught me to notice when a room is avoiding the real question.
It taught me that expertise matters, and that the quality of a question can change the direction of a decision.
It taught me that pressure reveals the quality of our clarity.
For the last nine years, this has become the foundation of my work with senior women in significant roles.
Women with vision, responsibility, pressure, and a clear sense that their work matters.
Women who need a thinking partner who can stand beside them in complexity, see what is beneath the surface, and ask the question that changes the room.
What the years with Benjamin built in me
The homepage tells you the beginning of this story.
For twenty-seven years, I have been inside medical rooms where the experts were certain and I could see something they were not yet seeing.
Most of the time, I was right.
When a young boy with MPS1 in India was running out of options, I found a way to secure his treatment.
I drove action across healthcare, media, and government to secure Aldurazyme access in Norway and open treatment pathways for children with Hurler Syndrome.
When the Norwegian stateā€™s decision stood between Benjamin and the care he needed, I took the case to court, overturned UNEā€™s decision, and set a humanitarian precedent for exceptional care that has held for the children who came after him.
Those years taught me how to stay with what I see when the dominant view is not yet with me.
They taught me how to influence a decision when I am not the named expert in the room.
They taught me how to keep listening for the real issue underneath the stated one.
That is what I bring into my work with you.
The ground underneath the work
I am the founder of Shestainability and co-founder of the Women Sustainability Power List.
I serve on the advisory board of Optimal Greening Foundation and on the board of Lean In Equity & Sustainability, which I also co-founded.
I have been recognised among the Top 10 Global Entrepreneurs in Energy Transition and received the CEO Today Executive Coaching Award in 2022.
My professional training spans executive coaching, strategic governance, energy leadership, and performance dynamics.
My work has included UN leaders, global energy and technology companies, and women building ventures designed to address urgent global challenges.
