Before you ask «What’s next?!» , ask … «Who’s next»

When we’re eager for change or sensing a shift, the first instinct is often to ask what’s next? Have you asked yourself what’s next lately?
That question has its place. But without context, it can take us in directions that repeat old patterns or amplify the very state we’re trying to move away from.
Asking what’s next without asking who’s next first can be like walking through mirrors — the same scene reflected again and again.
My dear friend Chris Frolic taught me a better starting point: What’s here?
Before you leap into the future, anchor into the present. What is already true? What is asking for your attention right now? What is present in your body, your relationships, your environment, your energy?
Once you’ve grounded yourself in what’s here, there’s a second question that changes everything: Who’s next?
Who is the next version of you that gets to step forward? Who do you get to become before you make that next decision?
If you’ve been running on empty, in fight mode with the world, hustling to prove your worth, your vision of what’s next will look completely different than if you are resourced, in flow, feeling good in your body, and deeply connected to your purpose.
This is not a thought exercise. It’s a recalibration. Because when you decide who’s next from a grounded place, what’s next starts to align naturally.
So next time you feel the urge to plan the next move, slow it right down.
Ask: what’s here? Then, who’s next? Only then is it time to ask what’s next?
